MAY DAY 5/1

In 1884, May 1st was set as the legal deadline for the 8-hr workday. 2 years later on the same day, nearly 340,000 workers went on strike across the United States. In 1904 it was established as International Workers’ Day. May Day has a deep history of demonstrations, strikes, and economic disruption for the biggest wins of the working class. This year is no different as we build towards mass non-cooperation and the power to mobilize for effective general strikes.

Building on the momentum of the No Kings Protests, we ask people to take the next step. While weekend mass demonstrations do a great job in mobilizing new people and bringing them into the movement, they lack the disruptive capacity that tends to only come with escalation.

That’s why this May Day: no work, no school, no spend, to demand Tax the Rich, Abolish ICE, and Protect Our Free and Fair Elections.

Using the resources we have to make calculated sacrifices, in coordination with thousands of our peers, we can create the mass disruption the billionaire class will feel, as they depend on us and the status quo. So talk to your coworkers and friends, call out sick, mobilize in community, and hit the streets — because together is how we create disruptive change.
