ABOUT US
The Sunrise Movement is a national grassroots mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good-paying jobs in the process.
The Sunrise NYC hub is the local New York City chapter of the national Sunrise Movement. We are ordinary young people who are concerned about what the climate crisis means for the people and places we love.
OUR TEAM
The Sunrise NYC Hub has an organizational model that relies on the participation of our members to succeed. Whether it’s five minutes a week or more than 40 hours, you’re equally a member and we depend on you. We also practice mentorship by shepherding members into leadership roles and providing them with skills and tools to become effective organizers.
We have four core teams that you can join:
POLITICAL POWER
Manages the political endorsement process for the hub, and coordinates with candidate’s campaigns
Researches and writes legislation for endorsed candidates to introduce
Hosts fundraising events
PEOPLE POWER
Recruits new members through outreach events
Promotes big upcoming actions through community outreach
Runs skill-building trainings for Sunrise hub members
Host Sunrise onboarding trainings
MYTHIC POWER
Organizes actions and protests
Creates social media content, video, and blog content
Defines campaign narrative and Sunrise NYC’s brand
Keeps the pressure on state and local politicians to enact change
CYBER POWER
Support digital infrastructure like website creation and digital tools
Technical projects such as creating the Legislative Tracker for tracking NY climate bills and engaging with representatives
Neighborhood Hubs
In addition to being a part of a core team, you can also join your Neighborhood Hub. It’s a great way to organize within your local community through canvassing, attending events, and staying involved in local issues.
