CBS, VP Debate, and Hurricane Helene

🗓 October 1, 2024
📍 CBS Studios

The morning before the 2024 U.S. vice presidential debate, six members of the youth-led Sunrise Movement were arrested for blocking a street outside CBS News in New York City. The Sunrise activists demanded that moderator Norah O'Donnell ask candidates about their plans to address the fossil fuel-driven climate crisis, especially in light of Hurricane Helene's devastating impact, which left at least 137 dead. Sunrise NYC emphasized the need for accountability from politicians like JD Vance and Donald Trump, who are influenced by Big Oil donations and fail to act on climate issues.

Sunrise NYC blocked the street for about 45 minutes, made numerous headlines, honored victims of Hurricane Helene, and the Vice Presidential Candidates were indeed asked about Hurricane Helene and the influence of climate change.
